Hubei Provincial Key Laboratory on Power Grid Environment Protection is located in Wuhan Campus of China Electric Power Research Institute. As a provincial key laboratory founded in 2013 upon approval, the Laboratory is in the charge of Science and Technology Department of Hubei Province and is operated and managed by High Voltage Department under China Electric Power Research Institute.

The Laboratory devotes to the research on basic problems facing power grid environment protection and the key technology, with the main research directions including: 1) research on power grid environmental influence and prediction technology; 2) research on key technology for EHV/UHV power transmission environmental protection; 3)research on power transmission and transformation equipment noise control technology and the application platform; 4) research on electromagnetic interference and system protection; 5)research on new-type environmental-friendly power transmission technology and equipment.

In recent years, the Laboratory has performed a great deal of research on application basic theory and R&D of new-type apparatus and equipment, and has undertaken National Basic Research Program of China (Program 973), Technological Support Project, Sino-Russia International Cooperation Project and other national scientific and technological research projects as well as major scientific and technological research projects of State Grid Corporation of China. It has made a number of breakthrough-making internationally advanced achievements in EHV/UHV power grid environment influence mechanism, prediction model and improvement technology, large-capacity long-distance HVDC technology and UHV AC transmission technology, mechanism of noise generation and transmission from power transmission and transformation equipment, prediction model and improvement technology, and UHV electromagnetic compatibility technology, etc. Accordingly, the Laboratory has played a vital supportive and promotive role in the development of power grid technology and harmonious development of the society and economy in Hubei Province.
